Post 4: Negative and positive impacts of social media

 Addiction and Distraction

Many youths struggle with excessive social media use. Constant notifications and scrolling lead to addiction and poor time management (Anderson & Jiang, 2018). This often affects school performance and sleep patterns.

Comparison and Mental Health

Seeing idealized images online can lead to low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression (APA, 2022). Youths often compare their lives to influencers, creating unrealistic expectations.

Cyberbullying and Fake News

Cyberbullying is another major issue. Harassment or hateful comments online can cause emotional distress. Furthermore, misinformation spreads quickly, making it hard for youths to separate truth from falsehoods (Common Sense Media, 2022).
